If all goes as planned, the 27 member states of the European Union will soon have a common hate crime legislation, which will turn disapproval for Islamic practices or homosexual lifestyles into crimes. Europe's Christian churches are trying to stop the plan of the European political establishment, but it is not clear if they will be successful.

Last April, the European Parliament approved the European Union's Equal Treatment Directive. A directive is the name given to an EU law. As directives overrule national legislation, they need the approval of the European Council of Ministers before coming into effect. Next month, the Council will decide on the directive, which places the 27 EU member states under a common anti-discrimination legislation. The directive's definition of discriminatory harassment is so broad that every objection to Muslim or homosexual practices will be considered unlawful.

On April 2, the European Parliament passed the "directive on implementing the principle of equal treatment between persons irrespective of religion or belief, disability, age or sexual orientation," 363 votes to 226. The directive applies to social protection and health care, social benefits, education and access to goods and services, including housing. American citizens and companies doing business in Europe are also required to adhere to it.

Originally intended to serve as an equal treatment directive for the disabled by prohibiting discrimination when accessing "goods and services, including housing," activist European politicians and governments had the directive's scope expanded to include discrimination on the basis of religion, age and sexual orientation.

Under the directive, harassment - defined as conduct "with the purpose or effect of violating the dignity of a person and of creating an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive environment" - is deemed a form of discrimination.

Harassment, as vaguely defined in the directive, allows an individual to accuse someone of discrimination merely for expressing something the individual allegedly perceives as creating an "offensive environment." The definition is so broad that anyone who feels intimidated or offended can easily bring legal action against those whom he feels are responsible. Moreover, the directive shifts the burden of proof onto the accused, who has to prove the negative, i.e. demonstrate that he or she did not create an environment which intimidated or offended the complainant. If the accused fails to do so, he or she can be sentenced to paying an unlimited amount of compensation for "harassment." [...]

The same phenomenon, a lack of interest on the part of European and also American public opinion, is apparent with regard to the semi-legal initiatives taken at the level of the United Nations. On October 2nd, the UN Human Rights Council approved a free speech resolution, co-sponsored by the US and Egypt, which criticizes "negative racial and religious stereotyping." American diplomats said the decision to co-sponsor the resolution was part of America's effort to "reach out to Muslim countries." The resolution passed unanimously, with the support of all Western nations. Though the resolution has no immediate effect in law, it provides Muslim extremists with moral ammunition the next time they feel that central tenets of Islam are being treated disrespectfully through the creation of what they perceive to be an 'offensive environment.'

A conservative black pastor in Washington, DC, is expressing outrage over President Obama's decision to file a legal brief in support of repealing the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).

A new brief filed yesterday by Justice Department lawyer Scott Simpson declares that the Obama administration "does not support DOMA as a matter of policy," and "believes that the Act is discriminatory and should be repealed by Congress." In a written statement, President Obama states that he has "long held that DOMA prevents LGBT [lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered] couples from being granted equal rights and benefits." (See earlier story) In fact, as a U.S. senator representing Illinois, Obama stated his support for "the complete repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act."

Bishop Harry Jackson, Jr., chairman of the High Impact Leadership Coalition, says the Obama administration's brief is "an assault on biblical, God-ordained marriage."

"Evidently the president signaled to us during the Stonewall celebration, when he had all of the gay activists into the White House and made presentations of what he would do for them, that he values this constituency and he is responding to their urging to accelerate the process of redefining marriage," he points out. "So, I think it is very hypocritical on his part. I'm very outraged."

Jackson is joined in indignation by Brian Raum of the Alliance Defense Fund, who is disappointed the Justice Department is challenging the law which was passed in 1996.

"It's really troubling that the federal government has taken a position that federal policy is bad policy," says the attorney. "Federal DOMA was passed overwhelmingly and represents the prevailing view of the people of the United States that marriage is between a man and a woman and that's the optimal environment for raising kids," Raum contends. According to Raum, DOMA also provides protection for states. "Well, federal DOMA makes it clear that states have the right to regulate marriage within their borders and that they cannot be forced to recognize same-sex 'marriages' from some other states," Raum explains. "If federal DOMA were to be struck down, that whole area of the law would be in jeopardy."

Jackson says as African-Americans, President Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder both should know that same-sex marriage is not a civil rights issue, and that opposition to same-sex marriage is not the moral equivalent of racism.

States would be 'sitting ducks'
At the same time the administration has filed papers challenging DOMA, attorneys with the Justice Department are seeking to dismiss a suit brought by a homosexual California couple who seek the same objective. Mat Staver, founder of Liberty Counsel, believes the DOJ may be playing political games in arguing against that case.

The government said in its legal brief to the court on Monday that the Justice Department will defend the 1996 DOMA but feels it is unconstitutionally discriminatory against homosexuals. Staver is eager to take a role alongside the Justice Department in defending DOMA because of what is at stake. (listen to audio)

"We're asking the court to allow us to intervene on behalf of the Campaign for California Families so that we can literally, aggressively defend this case -- not just be a figurehead, like we anticipate the Department of Justice may ultimately be in this case," says Staver.

DOMA declares that marriage is between one man and one woman. Another provision in the law provides that states are not forced to accept homosexual marriages performed in other states where it is legal. But what if DOMA were declared unconstitutional?

"Then the individual states are sort of sitting ducks," Staver explains. "What would happen is same-sex marriage would rush over the dam of the various borders of the states, so to speak, like a floodwater rushing over the top of a dam, and [it] flood all the other states."

That is despite the fact that 30 states have constitutional amendments protecting traditional marriage. The full faith and credit clause of the U.S. constitution would override any state law to the contrary -- even if it is a voter-approved amendment to a state constitution.

Over time, we could win, and besides my children ought to see a pale example of what Caleb and Joshua did in response to God's command. I don't care about the whining of the 10 other spys.

First, we are still in Egypt. Never forget this.

Second, the leadership -- pastors -- are not Moses and Aaron. They are these people:

Third, laymen still have their kids in the public schools.

Fourth, public school textbooks never criticize the FED. Neither does any college-level textbook.

Fifth, there is only one politician who has an understanding of the FED: Ron Paul. There has been no other in 50 years.

Sixth, you can't beat something with nothing. There is no free market institutional alternative to central banking. Goldmoney and BullionVault are tiny.

Seventh, the man in the pew has no understanding of money and banking. He can barely locate the Book of Deuteronomy. He has never read Leviticus.

Eighth, Christians hate the idea of responsibility for anything outside the four walls of family and church. They tar and feather anyone who suggests otherwise. I have seen this in action for 50 years.

Ninth, we have limited resources.

Tenth, each person should pick winnable local battles.

Eleventh, pretending you can win an unwinnable battle sidetracks you into fantasy politics: Playmate centerfolds for dreamers.

Twelfth, identify an area in which you have political expertise. Then master it. Create a blog. Create a mailing list.

Thirteenth, support grassroots political outfits. The closer to your zip code, the better.

Fourteenth, most voters are content with the system.

One more time: we are still in Egypt. Don't spend time and emotional energy planning the conquest of Canaan. We are not even wandering in the wilderness yet.

The best step you can take in escaping Egypt is to pull your children out of the tax-funded compulsory schools. Train them not to believe in the Federal Reserve System. I have advised Ron Paul to hire a team to create a home school curriculum. I hope he does. But, just in case he doesn't, I'll give it a shot. I hope.

On forcing taxpayers to pay for abortions, overturning Hyde and also revealing just how closely they are working with the Democratic Leadership on the issue of abortion coverage:

“You know, obviously, in the long term we’d like to see the Hyde Amendment removed. But you have to look at the number of votes. There’s not enough pro-choice members of Congress to make that happen. Even though it’s a goal, when we lobby and count votes around here, we still don’t have the have the votes to repeal Hyde. Right now, we’re working on a little piece of that, and that’s the D.C. abortion ban that is also on the books. That is a possibility that we could actually remove that ban. Being pragmatic, strategic, making sure we actually have the votes. So even though overturning Hyde is a long term goal, we can have some wins on some other areas earlier.”

On the likeliness abortion would be mandated in the health care overhaul:

“(I)f, indeed, we can advance a panel or commission, then I am very optimistic about reproductive health care being part of this entire package. The other side are the ones that are preemptively trying to stop any coverage of reproductive care, including abortion care. We don’t take anything for granted, and we don’t want to lose any ground for the women of this country.”

(CNSNews.com) – The right to an abortion is not different than any other “fundamental right,” according to a legal brief issued by the Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund (PRLDEF), in a case regarding Missouri state funding restrictions on abortion from 1988 when attorney Sonia Sotomayor was a member of the group’s governing board.

Massachusetts Sues the Federal Government for Rights to Legalized State Defined Sodomite Families

God Almighty has a controversy with secular humanist governments... (Jeremiah 25:31) and we already know who will win the legal battle!

Our State and Federal Governments are becoming outright proponents and activists for evil at every turn. When a state and it's legal system becomes, instead of the protector of that which is good, the very promotor of evil and then forces that evil upon a society who in it's majority doesn' t share it's values we truly living in perilous and evil times.

I don't know which is more evil the NEA (National Education Association), the major statist established religion's official youth ministry and religious education department, the Supreme Court, the perpetrator of untold unconstitutional evil upon a country once upon a time an example of justice or the current president, who with each new day of his administration becomes more and more an icon of EVIL IN ACTION. All are under indictment from an ultimate source of law much bigger than all of them combined and multiplied untold times... the Lord Himself shall bring upon them their own iniquity, and shall cut them off in their own wickedness... (unless the turn from their wicked ways)

Massachusetts sues feds over definition of marriage

BOSTON - Massachusetts is suing the federal government over a law that defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman.

State Attorney General Martha Coakley filed the lawsuit Wednesday in federal court in Boston. It says the federal Defense of Marriage Act interferes with the right of Massachusetts to define marriage as it sees fit.

The 1996 federal law denies federal recognition of same-sex "marriage." Massachusetts was the first state to allow the practice.

The Boston-based Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders has already sued over the federal law. It says it discriminates against homosexual couples and is unconstitutional because it denies them access to federal benefits that other married couples receive.

It is God, creator and maker of all things who reserves for Himself the right to define (name) every family both in heaven and earth (Ephesian 3:15). The family Martha seeks to define shall also be cut off from the face of the earth by God himself. There is good news for the meek and obedient, but all the wicked, liars, thieves, and dogs (sodomites) shall be UTTERLY CUT OFF... Is Laying Off a City the Size of New Orleans Every Month a Positive for the Economy?

Before Katrina's devastation, New Orleans had about 450,000 residents. Then came Katrina. For a time, the city was close to empty.

The number of newly unemployment people in June was larger than the size of New Orleans in 2005.

Think about this. Month after month, we lose the productivity of the equivalent of New Orleans. Or Sacramento. Or Fresno. These are huge losses.

These people no longer contribute to the economy. Yes, they still spend money, but they are drawing down on savings. They must sell what they own to put food on the table. Or they get unemployment insurance payments from the state. Same problem. They are consuming without producing. This reduces everyone's wealth a little. People's productivity is what makes life possible.

When the news release hit, the stock market fell and never recovered for the day. Why? We know that most forecasters have predicted 10% unemployment this year. Unemployment rose by 450,000, yet the unemployment rate rose by only a tenth of a percentage point: 9.4% to 9.5%. What will it take to push unemployment to 10%?

As I figure it, that will take another two million unemployed, or close to it. That means four or five Sacramentos or Fresnos.

The forecasters say they think stocks will rise. Until when? How many Fresnos must be fired for the stock market to peak? What is the benefit to the market of firing New Orleans? These people must find work or else lose their homes. They must find work or be forced into bankruptcy.

I hate to think about the effect on a family when a breadwinner gets fired. The still-working spouse -- if any -- now has the burden of paying the bills. But most families have little slack in the monthly budget. Where will the money come from to pay 100% of the bills on 50% of the income?

We are seeing 450,000 catastrophes a month. We know it's happening, but we shrug it off. Investors shrug it off. "No problem!" But it is a problem.

Fear is spreading fast, which is why the savings rate is up. The old dream of passive returns on investment making retirement possible is just about gone. This will change the plans of far more people that the 450,000 a month who get fired.

Think of another city shutting down next month. And the next. And the next. This is a better way to think of what's happening than just a tenth of a percentage point increase in the unemployment rate.

This is why you need more than a single income source.

Use this as motivation to begin planning a way to get another income source. I am, and I have lots of income sources, subscriber by subscriber. [I wrote this before yesterday's computer glitch.]

Revitalizing a nearly Extinct Language and Culture

This is an incredible moment. Two Kuna Indians, pastor and missiologist , Laurencio Montero to my left and Lino Smith (PhD linguist and Bible translator trained by SIL in Texas (second from right) and two Terraba indians Venicio Navas center and Chepito right. The Kuna Baptists are taking seriously their responsibility to help a brother tribe revitalize their language and culture. They are returning in May with a bigger group in full tribal dress to stimulate the Terraba Indians to restore healthy tribal customs (foods, tribal governance, and celebrations). This is all being done from a Christian worldview perspective and established on a solid foundation of Christ as King over all things. The whole project amazingly enough was birthed out of our Terraba Indian Coffee project.

The third week of March I travelled once again to San Francisco de Térraba and the up to Tiger Paw village in the Térraba Indian Reservation near Buenos Aires, Costa Rica. My team included Xinia Herrera recent graduate from Wycliffe’s translation and literacy program for Latin American missionary candidates in Perú and a missionary candidate Melvin Rojas. Our goal was to join two distinguished Kuna Indian friends and colleagues from Panama, Laurencio Montero, pastor, theologian and missiologist and Lino Smith linguist and Bible translator for the Kuna Language New Testament. Lino is also a member of the Kuna Congress, the ruling body of the Kuna Yala tribal lands along the north eastern coast of Panama. Our strategy? Link one of Latin America’s most vital tribal groups that has maintained its language and culture and that has a strong movement towards Christ to a sister tribe, the Térrabas, in danger of extinction. Our mission was to meet with Tribal elders and leaders to seek God’s wisdom and a strategy on how to revitalize their almost extinct language (only eight fluent speakers of Térraba survive and they are all very old. There are many partially fluent language speakers and most have totally lost their native language). We also met to seek wisdom on how to reorganize tribal life and culture within the parameters of a revitalization movement structured under Christ’s Sovereign Lordship and sound Biblical Theology. The beauty of this project is that the inspiration has arisen from within the tribe through a Térraba tribal leader who was recently converted through a miraculous healing. It is noteworthy and very significant that this project has grown out of our Térraba Organic Coffee Project done under Green Earth Coffee… coffee with a purpose.

The first day together we met to work on strategies for revitalizing the language to eventually see a literacy movement in the native tongue. As we met Lino Smith reminded us that God did not only revitalize the Hebrew language he resurrected it after hundreds of years of being a dead language as far as being spoken! If He can do it with the Hebrews, He can do with the Térrabas. Xinia helped us see that literacy in the native language cannot happen until people begin to relearn how speak the language. We also were much encouraged to learn that a new translation of the New Testament exists in Teribe a sister language in Panama that may be similar enough to Térraba to allow us to rapidly produce texts of God’s word in the Térraba language. What is urgently needed is a language survey and comparative linguistics analysis in order to determine similarities and differences. It may be that the two languages are really the same language with minor or major dialectical differences. That will make our work must easier and quicker. Time is of the essence.

The second day we worked on cultural revitalization issues and on various organizational and structural aspects of tribal government and administration. The Kunas were very helpful since the Kuna tribe has a very strong tribal government and were able to contribute many ideas.

The third day we concentrated on details for finishing up the Térraba clean water project and for establishing a small micro ecological coffee processing plant in the month of July.

On June 11, 2009 a report on home education in England by Graham Badman, a former Managing Director of Children, Families and Education in the County of Kent, was accepted in full by the British Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families. The report makes the case that homeschooling should be extensively regulated in England. Aside from registering with the state and mandating reports by homeschoolers, the Badman report makes references to balancing the rights of parents with the rights of children.
